23-26 May: European Parliament

Election of 705 members of the European Parliament in 27 member states. Varied electoral systems used in different countries. Five year term.

 

National Elections 2019

 

24 February: Moldova, Parliament

Election of 101 members of sole chamber of parliament for a four year term. Mixed electoral system of party lists and individual constituencies with a 6 per cent threshold.

 

3 March: Estonia, Parliament

Election of 101 representatives in 12 multi-member constituencies. Four year term.

 

16 March: Slovakia, Presidency

Direct election of the President for a five year term. Run-off possible on 30 March if no candidate obtains a majority of all votes cast.

 

31 March: Ukraine, Presidency

Direct election of the President for a five year term. Provision for second round on 21 April if no absolute majority obtained by any candidate in first round.

 

7 April: Andorra, Parliament

28 members of the General Council to be elected for a four year term. Mixed voting system with 14 members elected by first-past-the-post in seven constituencies and 14 via a proportional top-up list.

 

14 April: Finland, Parliament

200 members of sole chamber to be elected for a four year term by proportional representation in 13 multi-member constituencies.

Direct election of the President for a five year term.

 

12 May: Lithuania, Presidency

Direct election of the President for a five year term. Provision for second round if no absolute majority obtained by any candidate in first round.

 

26 May: Belgium, Parliament

Election of 150 deputies to the Federal Parliament in 11 districts, based on provinces. Five year term.

 

27 May: Netherlands, Senate

Upper chamber of Parliament to be elected indirectly by provincial councillors, following provincial elections of 20 March.

179 members of Folketing (sole chamber) to be elected for a four year term.

 

June (date tbc): Latvia, Presidency

Indirect election of the President by members of Parliament for a four year term.

 

6 October: Portugal, Parliament

Election of 230 members of sole chamber for a four year term.

 

20 October: Switzerland, Parliament

200 members of Nationalrat to be elected for a four year term.

 

27 October: Ukraine, Parliament

Election of 423 of 450 parliamentary seats split equally between first-past-the-post in single member constituencies, and party lists in a single nationwide constituency with a 5 per cent threshold. Five year term.

 

October (date tbc): Greece, Parliament

300 members of the sole chamber to be elected: 250 via proportional representation with a 50-seat bonus awarded to the largest party. 3 per cent threshold.

460 members of the Sejm and 100 Senators to be elected for a four year term.

Direct election of the President with provision for a second-round run off. Five year term.
